Kim Styles is a qualified Hampshire based jeweller who specialises in hand made, one off pieces. Her designs are inspired by study of plants and her own reference sketches and photographs. A member of ACJ Wessex, Kim actively participates in their exhibitions in the Hampshire area.
Kim will begin on a commission after discussions with the client, either in person or via email etc. Kim will produce a selection of sketched designs based on what has been discussed, as an initial starting point. When the primary sketches have been seen by the client, any thoughts, alterations etc are then incorporated into a final design. Once the client is happy with the final design, a deposit is taken before work starts and the balance is payable once the piece is completed. Kim records the work undeway if desired, so progress can be seen as the piece unfolds. A permanent keepsake book can be produced of the piece as it is made for a small further charge.
Kim graduated from Sir John Cass, a highly respected jewellery school in the City of London, where she gained an Honours Degree in ‘Jewellery, Silversmithing and Allied Crafts’. She took up positions working for two well established goldsmiths, manufacturing jewellery for London based companies. Kim then went on to set up her own small workshop in North Devon for some years before re-locating to leafy Hampshire, which has inspired her designs further.
When working on requested commissions Kim takes careful note of the way each plant grows, the shape of petals and stamens, bud and leaves, in order to bring her gold and sterling silver creations to life.
